Match of the Day:
The APA vs Chuck Palumbo and Sean O’Haire
For the WCW World Tag Team Championship
July 22nd, 2001
Two veterans and bonafide hall of famers take on two men who had the look and skills to be something big but never quite made it. I was a big fan of O’Haire back when he was under the management of Rowdy Roddy Piper and would have loved to see him get a bigger break.
This was a good, stiff brawl between these guys, but linkstomatches says it better:
The Acolytes were one of my favorite teams growing up. Might go as far as to say I liked them better than any team of the time aside from Edge & Christian. Palumbo and O’Haire I’d seen in WCW even before this, though the team of Jindrak and O’Haire is more prominent in my mind. These two teams have a very physical match, with the APA using a lot of old-school power while Palumbo and O’Haire bring a few new tricks to the table. As they’ve shown again and again, tricks aren’t quite enough to beat the APA, so Palumbo and O’Haire have a job ahead of them. Pretty short, check it if you’ve got the time.
What I most remember from this match is the complete whiff on the Superkick from Palumbo to Ron Simmons. Not sure who botched, but it was LMAOOOOO
